Comenzó su carrera el 2013 posteando covers en Vine, consiguiendo millones de seguidores en pocos meses y siendo reconocido por sus homenajes de seis segundos de varias canciones populares. El manager Andrew Gertler lo descubrió en Enero del 2014, presentándolo en Island Records donde eventualmente firmaría un contrato y lanzaría su primer single, "Life of the Party", en Junio del 2014. Es el artista más joven en componer su propio disco debut top 25 con una canción en el Billboard Hot 100, donde debutó número 24 en la semana del 12 de Julio del 2014, a los 15 años.
